Ok I was trying to be nice... my first thought not knowing anything about his family was... was this guy the son of a Russian gangster and paid his kids way into F1? I watched him race but I never heard anything about shady stuff.

Nah that’s the kid from a couple years ago who lost his drive because his family ran afoul of Putin and were suddenly arrested for financial crimes...I think? Drove for Williams maybe?

Petrov is just a standard Russian jerk (racist/homophobic). It does suck that his dad was shot but the timing also screams Russian conspiracy to me.

I thought it was him and then second guessed myself that it might have been a reserve driver. My  first google attempt didn’t bring up anything juicy but there might have been too many financial scandals lately to narrow it down!
